About Homeopathy
How does Homeopathy Work?
Homeopathy is highly individualised and as a functional medicine it comprehensively considers the whole person and their health. It seeks to focus on identifying and addressing the root cause of dis-ease.
The homeopath's task is to select a remedy which matches not only your physical symptoms, but also your emotional and mental characteristics. Each symptom may be one of many contributing to your condition.
The remedy chosen by the practitioner is determined individually for each person in their specific situation; it is therefore not possible to say that a particular condition will always respond to a specific remedy.
It is important to note that homeopathy does not address a labelled illness or disease because everyone is unique and will therefore experience these differently. Homeopathy addresses the symptoms an individual is experiencing. This distinction is important.

'Like Treats Like'
The word 'homeopathy' is formed from two Greek words and essentially means 'like treats like'. Therefore, remedies are selected on their ability to produce similar symptoms to the ones the patient already has.
So, for example, in the same way that coffee can cause insomnia, one of the homeopathic medicines designed to help people suffering from sleeplessness and agitation, is a remedy called Coffea. A remedy prepared from onions is used for the well-known symptoms that onions can cause: stinging, watering eyes and sneezing.
Your Homeopathic Remedy
Your remedy, prescribed following your consultation, is generally given in a pilule, (a small pill) form. Because homeopathic remedies work in a different way from conventional medicines, do make sure that you understand the instructions before you take your remedy – often, only one or two doses are given, followed by a period of waiting to gauge the response.
In the UK, remedies come in a variety of potencies for example 30c, 200c, IM. You will be recommended the one best suited to you.
Safety
You can safely use your homeopathic remedy alongside conventional drugs. It will not interfere with the action of any medicines prescribed by a doctor.
Homeopathic
remedies are non-toxic and do not cause side effects in the way conventional
medicines often do.
